Serpico

Encompassing the bold, assertive and resolute woman that it drapes, the SERPICO collection is a very modern clothing line that is both intelligent and well made. SERPICO is inspired by the linear quality and spatial integrity of modern and classical architecture as well as modern art and film. Transcendent of time and boundlessly continental, the collection embraces the able, artful and astute contemporary woman. The use of fine fabrics and the influence of travels abroad create a line of continuously intricate textures and sculptural silhouettes.

The quality of the SERPICO garment and the involved details are of the utmost importance. Each garment is draped by hand using traditional pattern making methods to ensure realization of each original design and proper fit. Pure fabrics such as 100% cotton, wool and silk are sourced for the collection and are finished with the best possible techniques. Hand stitching often completes the garments, affixing hand made trims and appliqués.

While avant-garde, the SERPICO label allows women to embrace its intricacy of detail, its bold modern lines and lasting inherent styles that flow seamlessly from piece to piece, passionately from collection to collection, bridging an elegant past with an exciting future.

SERPICO was created by Melissa Serpico Kamhout after graduating from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Originally working in the field of graphic design, following matriculation from Loyola University she returned to school to pursue her unquestionable passion for clothing design. Achieving recognition for her talents throughout her studies, she was awarded the SAIC Marshall Field's Perry Ellis Award in 2005, followed by the The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation's Award for excellence in fashion at its annual fashion show in 2006. Upon graduation in May, 2006, Melissa immediately embarked on starting her own clothing line SERPICO, debuting her first collection for Fall of 2007.

In October 2008, SERPICO will open a retail space adjacent to the design studio at 1514 N. Ashland Ave. in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. Experimental and one-of-a-kind pieces will be available along with the current SERPICO collection and other fanciful items that inspire.
